Gizzy, Both the 61 and the similarly-designed 9422 have controlled round feed in that there are two extractors on the bolt, an upper and a lower, one always holding on to the shell until it's ejected. Sounds like your lower had a weak spring or non-fitted extractor. 22 A.G.S.

The fit and finish of these rifles is fine. The 9422 Legacys are VERY accurate, too. As for the pistol grip not being traditional enough for a Winchester lever, well that's just nuts!Why are shotguns so expensive, there seems to be a lot of price difference. I've listed them in the order in which I believe is the "Quality" of the rifles. I think most who have owned and/handled these would probably agree with that. It is time to sell most of them. Yeah, the Winchester, Browning and Marlin are better guns, but the Henry isnt a bad gun. They have smooth actions , good triggers, good barrels and nice wood. The 9422 is being discontinued for exactly the same reasons the Remington Nylon 66 died. In 1959 Remington brought out the 66. They invested a lot of money in machinery to make it. That was no problem because the 66 sold like hotcakes and returned the investment in the equipment in short order. After a few years, sales of the 66 fell off.
