2002 transfer case leak. I am new to diesels and this forum. I just bought a 2002 K3500 dmax 4wd 5spd Allison. The truck has 150K on it. I put the truck on a lift in my warehouse to change all the fluids and found the tranfer case was bone dry. I pulled several pieces of metal out of it and refilled it.Tightened to spec and see if it continues to leak. If it continues to leak, buy a new bolt. The new one should have a washer on it and should stop the leak. Or, reuse the bolt adding a dab of permatex. In a transfercase which used Lucas oil for 2 years and 3 months strait in a 40lucas x 60tranny fluid mix, the transfercase was in PERFECT working order upon opening, dismanteling, and replacing with a SYE. The shift fork pads inside the t-case showed no signs of overheating, warping, scoring, cracking, or any wear what-so-ever.Im trying to determine if I should pull the tcase and replace bearings or just stop the leak and keep driving it. To recap, the tcase had a pretty fast leak (coming out lower bolt on 4 bolt shim cover). The t case ran dry when on a road trip and the bearing(s) squealed me to a stop. Towed scout home and refilled tcase with oil.
