And the real hard setting is 6 monthes later...not Apoclypse. For a first time player, Survivor (or perhaps even Builder) is probably better.

Superb survivors is not compatible with multiplayer. But I really hope they is a way to bypass that. I like the mod. And the best settings I found for me so far are, suvivors spawn rate at the lowest. 5% or 0% chance of spawning with guns (because there is always a guy with a shotgun making noise at 2 in the morning attracting zeds). Weapons can hit multiple zombies, the rear vulnerability of character isn't ramped up to 11, zombies can't auto drag you down if 3 or more are in you etc. Builder the same with less zombies and rarer loot, where the challenge comes from finding stuff rather than zombie threat.
