Deere actually did put a fitting on these joints and it is a 90 degree fitting just pointed in the wrong direction.

To resolve this problem I installed U-Joints with the grease nipple in one of the caps. The MGB purists freak out over the thought of being able to easily grease the U-Joint. Hopefully cooler heads prevail here. The part number I use is a Neapco 1-0300. SKF and Spicer also make the same U-Joint.
