There are a lot of marking on the under side of the barrel that I haven't seen on other Lugers. Where the barrel meets the frame on the under side are the numbers 8.83, immediately down the barrel from that is the small cursive "d", then the serial 4194. Serial number 7819. On the front strap is stamped N 1437. Am trying for determine the reason and significance of this numbering. The gun was a military issue buy the stamps but was reworked for the police with the sear safety. Any help appreciated.I have a 9mm 1917/1920 DWM and have been photographically recording markings and looking them up. All numbers match, including internal small parts, except for a WWII magazine, and grips. The four-digit serial number is 10XX with no suffix letter. The right receiver has the normal German military receiver proofs of 1914-1918.Additionally there is 8.83 reflected on the barrel which was the proof marking of land diameter of the barrel. The grooves designed to be 9mm. This Luger is all matching including the magazine. These series of Lugers were produced from 1914 until 1918 for the German Military. This Parabellum has all matching numbers.
HEY_LT, as far as the eagles on the holsters are concerned: both are police acceptance markings. The first eagle has an "B" in the center. eagle/Letter combinations were only used by the police. A matching Sauer 38/H would have an eagle/C or eagle/F. As Danny already mentioned: eagle/37 is a Wehrmacht (=Army) acceptance.Photographs showing markings and grip details.
